In South Africa's burgeoning underground hip-hop scene, a name is starting to echo louder and louder: Yung Geezo. With raw emotion, undeniable talent, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity, Geezo is carving out a space that is uniquely his.

When I sat down with him for this interview, Geezo was in the studio with fellow artists Lyndan James  and Kxng Kalvin.

"I discovered that I can actually do this… I just kept going and kept going."

Early Beginnings: The Spark That Started It All

Music found Yung Geezo early. What began as beat-tapping and freestyling at breaktime in primary school soon revealed a deeper calling. "People would look forward to break just to hear us freestyle," he recalls. It wasn’t long before he realized this was more than just fun — it was purpose.

His musical roots run deep. With a father who DJed and an uncle who rapped, the rhythm was already in his blood. All he needed was a spark. That spark came in later.

Musical Influences: Soul, Street, and Storytelling

Geezo's taste is as diverse as his flow. He cites Kendrick Lamar, Young Thug, Kodak Black, 2Pac, and Jay-Z as key influences. He even points to BrotherKupa’s track "Both Sides" as a pivotal inspiration, a moment when he saw a mirror of himself in someone else’s sound.

"That track 'Both Sides' made me realize—yeah, I can really do this."

Sound & Identity: Don’t Box Him In

Where most up-and-comers scramble for a lane, Yung Geezo refuses to be boxed in.

"I like to give a buffet. You come and pick what you like."

He doesn't see himself strictly as a rapper. He proudly calls himself a musical artist. Whether it's sexy drill, introspective storytelling, or party-ready hooks, his catalog stretches across moods and vibes. And that's intentional.

"I make music because I'm expressing myself. It's my therapy."

Marketing the Vision: TikTok and the Power of Repetition

When it comes to getting his music out, Geezo is hands-on. His strategy? Let the music speak — then amplify it with clever, consistent content. Punchlines, memes, visual loops: all part of a game plan to stick in your head.

"If I keep posting the same clip with different settings, people are gonna click eventually."

Social media, especially TikTok, has become a major part of his rollout. And though he was once hesitant, he now sees the value.

Pain, Passion, and Projects

His 2022 project, Ain't No Love In The Streets, was born from heartbreak but shaped by resilience. The title says it all, but the emotion behind it? Deeper than words.

"That first song was for my ex... I was heartbroken, bro."

But Yung Geezo doesn’t believe pain is the only source of good art. To him, it's about authenticity.

"The best artistry comes from the love of it... not just pain."

On the Rise: What’s Next for Yung Geezo?

Geezo is already cooking. A new mixtape is on the way, featuring Lyndan, J Money, and others. But don’t expect just any compilation. This one is rooted in expression, not expectation.

"It’s just like pure vibes, bro... mostly expression."

With improved delivery, better breath control, and deeper writing, he's confident the next chapter will hit even harder.

"I just lose it in the pen. I write about what I’ve been through and what I hope I can fix."

Final Thoughts

Yung Geezo isn’t just another name in the crowd. He’s a storyteller, a strategist, and a soul-baring creator. If you're not already paying attention, now’s the time to start.

Because for Yung Geezo, dreams really do come true. And he’s living proof.
